If your knowledge of electrics is basic then you cant go wrong with an alternator.
And they are MUCH better than a generator You coould almost say that you need rocks in your head to go with ... |

It sounds like you have the other side of the guage connected to the instrument lamp. It should only come live when the ignition is on

Generator will need to be changed to an Alternator, and if you get the right one you wont need a regulator. Every thing else will be fine, except the fuel gauge, in mine it is back to front... | |

When I got my wiper motor back from the reconditioner it did the same.
If you loosen the top plate and turn the cap that has the wire on it it will adjust how far the the arms go before the return. ... |
