Been reading a bit about dating the morries.
I was wondering if someone could assist me with my compliance plate.
As my car is a bit of a bitsa, it is for only curiosity

Type : FAB51
Car No : 251397/35215
Engine : F2/90486

Chassis no : 251397735215

Any help given would be appreciated.

Regards
Kel

Bitsa is correct ... looks like it's not the original plate either

[F] Morris Minor
[A] 4 Door Saloon
[B] Light Grey
[5] RHD CKD
[1] Synthetic
Vehicle Number: 251397
Production records show that this vehicle was built in 1954 and has the early Series II 803cc engine, developing a staggering 30 brake horsepower.

thank you Frosty.
That has got me a bit concerned on two parts.

1)
4 door saloon when it is a panel van

2)
30 brake horse power ? how will I ever tow the tear drop?

Regards
Kel

So does that mean someone has cut a sedan up and fitted it onto the chassis or have they for some reason just swapped compliance plates? It has certainly had an exciting life, Kel

So started as a four door car then chopped in half, rails removed, rear roof strengthener fitted then fitted onto the chassis and then lowlight conversion done.

Maybe now you know this you could look in a few strategic places and see if it has had all that conversion work done. Look forward to hearing how you get on

personally I would reckon that somewhere in history someone has just swapped the plates or lost it and just got hold of whatever they could as rego people would not decifer these codes but would probably require the plate to be fitted.

I'm kinda a little surprised as to the out come.

Frosty,
The van does have 4 doors. Just in a different place then a car. Two on the rear and one on each side.
As for the saloon, well, I have had many a beer in there, is that called a bar or a saloon.

Libbor
Thanks for your graphic suggestion, however, I would suggest that Jimmy -d would be more accurate and closer too the truth.

Ok...
I suppose the next Question is,,,,can I buy a blank compliance plate and stamp it to get it to be closer to the actual thing.....

A 4 door saloon doesn't come close to a shaggin wagon
Regards
Kel

Thank you Frosty, I will get one.

Could you please also advise what should be stamped on it.

going by your list so far

"F " is correct. it is a Morris Minor
"?" for a panel van
"B" could be correct for the past
"5" RHD is correct but I'm unsure what CKD is
"1" Synthetic Not sure what that is.
Did they have synthectic things back in the mid 50's
Could you please explain a little more about this ?
Regards
Kel

Kel, If you wanted the plate to say what it is actually now, then this would be close. Not historically correct mind you though Shocked

VIN: FED54251397

[F] Morris Minor
[E] Van
[D] Dark Blue
[5] RHD CKD
[4] Metallic
Vehicle Number: 251397
Production records show that this vehicle was built in 1954 and has the early Series II 803cc engine, developing a staggering 30 brake horsepower.

CKD = it came in a wooden crate (Complete Knock Down )
4 = Paint type

Not unheard of though. It's quite surprising how far people go to achieve their end. I am pleased for you that it is only an id issue.Very Happy

I will try not to be so graphic next time. I was just getting a bit carried away

Cheers

So what is the requirement for the ID plate. My last engineering experience was about 15 yrs ago. At that time my car had neither ID plate or ADR compliance plate. The compliance plates I believe didn't appear until about 1962. Will I need an ID plate for my next engineering experience & if you can buy & punch them yourself then what is their purpose ?

There is no purpose for them. I know when my car was engineered they took no notice of it whatsoever. All they wanted to see was the chassis number on the top lhs firewall and the engine number. All that is stamped on my plate where the chassis number is, is 09559. I stamped that because that is what the rego paper said.

As far as i can tell, we put one there because that was what was there before
