Hi all
New to the forum so thought i would see if you guys could help out.
I have a morris split screen van that im trying to establish its exact age and more info on it.
The info i have so far
The I.D plate has the following (Im not sure if this is the original i.d. plate as the car was registered as a 59 ute in 2002)
Type: OFB51 (this is a ute code?)
Car no: 15975
Engine no: 03/140105 (not the same as the engine in her but im sure the original is in the shed)
Colour: Clarendon Grey
It also has a little tag fixed onto the other side of the firewall that looks like it was there from day one with R5305 stamped on it.
Also has a small plate with "assembled by Howards LTD brisbane"
I have assumed its most probably a 54 as its a split screen, has the speedo in the dash in front of the driver not in the middle of the dash so that would make it pre oct 54?
I canot find any numbers/identifiers stamped anywhere on the body (none of the suggested spots.. firewall, front wing, drivers floor) apart from the small aluminium plate with R5305 stamped on it. This plate looks like it was there from day one.
Any info anyone can offer?[/img]

I think you are pretty close with the 54 designation, earlier would have a different grill, later would have the hump in the dash, things like the glass, wiper motor headlight dipper are all dated this might help you if 2 or three things have the same date

The dash & grille changed over at the same time so this van has had a later grille & front guards fitted at some stage.
Also, because they were just like a Mechano set, utes often became vans & vice versa so I wouldn't be too concerned about the odd code.

Yep im guessing the grill was replaced several times as were the front guards. We found 3 sets of smashed guards (left and right). and the chassis is bent. I have a feeling the old guy who owned it was accident prone.

Hey Dave, how is the Van project coming along?
any progress or extra information as to the actual year?
If you have a look here ~ http://www.morrisdownunder.com/words/colours.htm
~ you will see that Clarendon Grey is listed pre 54 on the Leyland charts
cheers
