Hi all I have a Lucas alternator 15 AC 12 v new old stock given to me for my morry. The problem I am having is the Lucas alternator has a aperture on the back with 2 large pins about 10 mill ( 1 has a + beside it the other a -) Just under them are 2 small pins( 1 has F beside it the other has IND ) The problem is do I connect the+ to the battery, the - to all the joined weirs joined from the regulator. The f pin to the two thin yellow weirs from the regulator, is the IND pin used.
It has a built in regulator.

help

Gordon

If it has a built in regulator, then the large terminal with the + goes to your +ve battery side.
The IND is used for your ignition light.

There's info here:
http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=39514
but you don't need to run new wires.

The F wire can be moved across to join up to A.
Remove the two D wires & join them together.
As long as it's a small alternator, the existing wiring will handle the amperage.

Thanks Scott.
Do I leave the internals in the regulator , or take them out using it as a junction box. As I understand it if the alternator has a regulator you don,t the Morris regulator. Do I use the other fat pin with the - for any thing.

Thanks heaps Gordon.

No need to touch the regulator - removing the wires from the F & D terminals renders it a junction box anyway.

I'm not sure about the 2nd fat terminal, unless it's designed as an earth which would be odd as they earth through the mounts.

Fitted the lucas alternator. Nothing worked, no dash warning light no charge to the battery nothing,?????????????. Strange as it is new old stock, was a little bit angry as I spent a 2 hours making the adjustment bracket to clear the motor mount. after removing the alternator tossing it across the shed giving it a couple of kicks,
A very good friend came in the shed with a BOSH alternator in his hands. Told me this one is working fine. So I fitted the BOSH one, spent about a hour re altering the adjustment bracket, all locked good the gen light on dash came on started the motor the gen light went out, took the lead of battery motor still running . Very happy time for (BEAR).
The only problem is that my after market amp gauge only shows discharge but doe,s not show charge. I think this is because the charge goes direct to the battery not through the Morris wiring.
Can I wire the gauge some way to show charge, if so how.

Help again please Gordon.

You can hook up the ammeter between the alternator & battery but it's not really advisable with the higher outputs the alternator gives.
The alternator will be able to keep up with any load now so as long as the ignition light is out, you're OK.
