I have a couple of Mini 3 leg 14W wiper motors. Now I can sort the wiring they have only 4 pin connection but unsure of the sweep.
I note the Morris single speed is 100 degrees these are 105 degrees, have been told the pin can be moved.
1. Do I need to move it as my project now has parallel wipers.
2. If so, how to remove and refit pin.
Thanks.

Hi john

Bob Ball ~ bally ~ did a conversion on his split screen wipers a while ago and did a write up.

Hope it is of some help.

From memory I think you need 105 deg for parallel wipers

here is bally's article

Thanks Frosty
Still working away on my Ute and came across a 14 W two speed wiper it has 105 degree gear wheel which I will try as windscreen measurements look OK with my now altered parallel wipers. I have the series 5 dash fitted so I can use a Mini switch.

Hi John

Here is my understanding:

1000s have two different specification wheel boxes, so the angle specification of the gear wheel will depend on which boxes you have. I believe that there are 32 tooth and 40 tooth units (I don't know whether Australia got both types). Getting the sweep right depends on getting the right combination of wheel boxes and gear. The gears for the 14w motors can be bought from the UK with angles ranging from something like 90 degrees to 160 degrees.

As you have mentioned, you can alter your existing gear. As you know, it is a matter of moving the peg toward the centre to reduce the sweep and vice-versa. I haven't done it myself, but I recall that Grumpy's guide on how to adapt Marina parts to Minors has a section on it. (I have a copy somewhere if you need to know more).

I'm running a Marina wiper motor with matching wheelboxes on my van which has 3 parallel wipers.

A couple hours on the net I found out how to alter the gear wheel the 14W has the 32 teeth wheel and as said gear wheels are available but a bit expensive ( $32 to $45 dollars and $30 postage)so as I have a few wheels I kept the 105 degree ones and altered a 120 degree one . A matter of drilling the peg out from the rear with a 5/16 spot weld cutter and repositioning on the opposite side with the same cutter 11mm in gives 100 degrees . If it does not work I have only ruined one 120 degree wheel.

After all my hard work which has yet to be tested I grabbed my tray of wiper parts mostly single speed square type and realized the gear wheel is much smaller.
So I found the single speed wiper motor from the 1962 Ute and pulled it down and low & behold it had the larger 32T wheel the same as the two speed and it is a 100 degree.
Moral of this story is "Look before you leap."

Hi John

Be sure to let us know whether the sweep turns out to be correct.

Yes John, I will be needing to know the degree for my parallel one that didn't come with a wiper, so will have to make one.

My information from a club member who has done it before says.
Minor wiper cable travel is 22mm and the pin should be fitted in the wheel 11m from centre. Which is exactly what I measured my original one from the 1962 ute.
However the single speed plate and wheel is a bit different not having the contacts for HI/Lo and park underneath , a bit more thought going on here.
