The cab is a bit small, which is why I have changed the doors to Suicide opening. I am 170 cm (5"9') tall and I just fit, so as an every day Ute it wont be to good, but I just hope it turns heads.

I have just started on the electrics, so I am way behind schedual for having it finished for QLD at easter, so next possible debut is the Ute muster in Denny in October

, it certainly looks different from what Mr Morris turned out of his factory.
What are you doing for power?
It looks like it should have a V engine rumble, a Vitara 2lt V6 would give you a bit of go and should make the right noise.
Anyway I am sure you have your own vision and are working towards it, be very interested to see the end result.

Power is a Toyota 5K with a Tighe Cam - HO113, fresh rings and bearings, 32/36 webber, Exhaust is 2" Mandrel bent with an auger muffler (it sounds like a Hyabussa), Lightend flywheel, 5 speed box and Toyota B/W diff.Check out the build at

Just bumping myself top the top.
The Ute is booked in for an engineer’s certificate next week, if all goes to plan by the end of September I will have it pulled apart for panel and paint.
The timeframe at this stage is the have it ready for possibly the last Summernats here in Canberra.

Got my report back from the engineer today
only some small issues
1-Rear has to come up about 20 mm
2- Gear box cross member not strong enough
3- Wheels & tyres to big, (seems the rules changed in 2006)
I can only run a max width of tyre of 195
4- Front and rear track too wide 44 mm front and 90mm in the rear

so: I need the specs of the track of the diff on a KE30
I have a set of too big Dragways for sale
I have to re design the tray to suit 195 rather than 235 tyres
I have to possibly re design the front brakes to bring them inboard 22mm
may be a different diff from a KE55 if narrower.
I hope the wheel and track issues will go away with new rims and tyres.

Good news is the roof chop, doors, seats, harnesses, engine, gearbox, diff, shaved handles, brakes and all the other mods are OK

so a small set back but all possible to fix.

all i know is a KE36 van diff is exactly the same width as the minor's, i believe the sedan diff if a little narrower?, also if you are thinking of a marina diff it is wider by approx 20mm

I need to pick up a new diff, the KE30 is 20mm wider than a Morris one which I can live with, but some how the pinion angle is wrong, the built in lowering blocks need to be reduced and as the wheels are useless I will go to corolla bolt pattern, it will be just as easy to modify a standard diff than to play with the one in it.
I will then machine the front hubs to take Corolla bolt pattern as well, then I will try and find a set of Corona 14" rims which if needed can be off set to suit the requirements.
New gearbox cross member is finished, just needs a coat of paint
I am laying down some bog to get the cabin ready for paint this week

Some updates
Wheel & tyres are on order from the USA Chrome steelies
White wall tyres 185/60/14 Front, 185/65/15 rear
Tray will need to be redesigned so I am looking at
Step side or tow truck style

I am machining up new front wheel hubs to suit the Ford KE brakes as the Corolla brakes are smaller.

I haven't touched the Ute for a few weeks as some times you just get fed up with things going wrong or needing to be changed.

I would not use him anyway, he once looked at my Yellow convertible and noticed it had duel exhaust tips and he advised me I need an engineers certificate for it. In QBN he was known at the Hungry Jacks engineer as that is where he would meet to hand over the certificate. When its my life driving down the Highway I want the car safe, thats why I would only use Ray Spence.

My wheels and tyres have arrived in Australia, I hope to have them at home this week once they get through customs. I will post some photos as soon as I get them on the Ute.

I plan on getting clockwork on the road this year, even if it kills me

My wife & Daughter will get to decide on what will happen with the Ute when or if it kills me, currently its killing me financially, my lungs will get destroyed when I do the painting, my knees will give out when I start driving it due to them being under my arm pits, my back will seize up from getting in the thing. If I crash it I only have about 6" of movement in any direction before my head hits something.

I should be on anti depression medication because the time it has taken to get done.

I just want the thing finished so I can hopefully enjoy driving it and showing it off.

But I will tell them that you have first offer to purchase when i'm gone. My wife will need the money to pay for the pine box.(wonder what paint job I can have on a coffin?)

Here is your chance, you can get a cardboard coffin (cheap) and paint it any way you want.
Wife went to an exhibit on them at the local Art gallery few weeks back some nice paint jobs.
Or with your metal skills just run up one and even add wheels if you want .
Seems there are no rules.
Just a bunch of people that want your estate to pay through the nose for what they sell at the time of most need.

14 X 5 fronts with 185/60/14 tyres
15 X 6 rears with 185/65/15 tyres

I will check clearance tonight and get the tyres mounted on Saturday.

Wheels are multi hole and custom off set and cost with caps $330 each delivered. not to bad compared with what I was quoted here in Aus.

I put the rims on for a test fit. rear track 1314 mm, front track is 1316 mm. Looks like I am over by 5 mm on the fronts and 6 mm on the rears, based on VSB14, rims are welded right on the edge of the centers, I have 3 mm I can machine if the front hubs (each side) if needed.

Brake clearance

Maybe tomorrow I will get the tyres mounted.

I have to spray a 1951 Ford lead sled next week so Clockwork will sit and wait.
