A picture I took to day of Morrx in the sunshine. I had washed it to go to the Mussel festival so I think it looks good.

G'day

We went to the Colac Custom bike and car show today, the only Minor,
ended up parked next to an early 50's Mainline, the first car I drove was a later model .

It still had its side valve V8

A lot of different cars scattered inbetween the V8s
Even another rotary

RX7 engine

Jag and Singer

Model A

Caddy

A couple of nice Holdens if that is not a contradiction of turms
HR ute with 308

FE with V6

Some times it is hard to work out what the owner is trying to achieve.

G'day

Morrx went to the Queenscliff Rod Run, show and shine today. Several hundred cars, Rods, Street cars mainly American or Australian but some others.

Morrx got a nice shady spot between a Cadalac convertable and an American Ford ute.

I saw one other Morry

A few other cars that caught my eye

Anglia with 3.5 Rover V8

G'day

Morrx went on a Geelong Morry outing on Sunday, to a members house for Pizza and bbq. We met up with some members from Ballarat and Bendigo as well. Fortunately Doug has a big yard so even with his SHED there was room to park.

About seven cars in hear in varying states.

Rather nice !930's Riley

G'day

On the morning of the first Sunday of the month there is a gathering of classic cars on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart.

Both cars have the same injected 6 port 13B, one is original.

Has anyone put a Masarati V8 in a Minor?

Hudson

Not particularly interested in Rat Rods but some nice cars there including two other Minors.

Chopped Minor with 253 V8 being built as a one off car.

G'day

I went to a British and European classic car show at Flemington on Sunday, over a thousand cars across the full spectrum of cars.
Here are a few pictures I took.
I had not seen one of these for a while, the Minor in the background is reputed to be the only 1,000,000 in Australia.

Austin A30 wagon, it looked to have its standard Engine.

I liked its optimism.

Clearly it dose not aspire to have a very much bigger engine as from my understanding the 803 dose not rev too freely

This little Wolseley was parked opposite Morrx, very nice.

Austin A30. Rev?? yes they do 803 engines do rev because they put 5.3 to 1 diffs in them all 803 were know for high revs and no top speed.
A /30 vans are vary rare here in Aus.
You would of liked my brother Williams A30 it ran a 1360cc Simca engine it reved so hard (till we changed diffs) that it would wheel spin in 1st 2nd and 3rd from take off.
Finally put fan blades through radiator.

Before I was born my Dad had an A30 van, 2 adults and 5 children would have been a squeeze, they also used to take friends and relatives sightseeing in it, thats probably 9 in that little thing, that was the 60's though

G'day

The A30 was a 2 door wagon, glass side windows and back seat similar to the Minor Traveller.
The 803 may sound like it is reving but 4 to 5k is not really reving, mine will spin to 7k with out all the noise but plenty of go.

G'day

Back home, a bit later than I had hoped. but good to be back in the warm.
We got back in time for the Ist Friday chrome bumper gathering at the Fishermans wharf.

Where I parked was next to a International Harvester pick up, the Family had one of these when I was young.
It was replaced by Ford Mainline, which was replaced by this model mainline which was the first car I drove.

Three rotaries there this month

And a couple of VWs among an assortment of other things.

G'day

How time flies, it was five years ago today that I became a Morry owner and started the project that was to become MORRX.
I started this thread on the same day so it records the history of the past 5 years.

Owning a Minor is quite different to anything else I have owned, most times I take it out someone will comment on it or just look and smile as if remembering happy times.
Surprisingly this also happens in Darwin, where the average age of the population is much lower than other cities.

This is the first time I have done anything like this and I could have managed the project much better than I did but surprisingly the transplant has ended up with a car that performs much as I had hoped/expected.
The injected 6 port 13b is the perfect engine for older cars, it is relatively compact in size so fits without much cutting, its power is SMOOTH and progressive with power and torque coming with the revs, so you do not have to spend a fortune trying to stop axel tramp from the old cart springs. The engine pulls smoothly from 0 to 7000 rpm it just gets stronger as you go through peak torque at 4000 heading to peak power at 7000. If you use 7000 you pay for it in petrol consumption as you would with any engine but if you stay mainly under 3500 consumption is reasonable at around 30mpg, mind you letting the auto change a 3000 is adequate to keep ahead of the traffic even with the aircon on, 3500 in top is 140kph.
The best part of the changes, for enjoying driving the car, was the brake upgrade. The original brakes worked but did not inspire much confidence in modern traffic, if I had intended to keep the car just for club runs/weekends then the original set up may have had a place but as I use the car any time and especially with the increased power, power assist four wheel disks make life a lot more relaxed when driving and allows you to appreciate the driving more not having to worry about the usual idiots as much knowing you can stop.

Over all I would say a positive five years, some frustration in the beginning getting people to do what they said they would but now I enjoy Morrx every time I take it out and that is what it was all about in the first place.

Cheers
Graham

Interesting project Graham which has been closely watched by a heap of people over the years. Great to see it in Port Mac and perhaps see you again in A-W in 2015? I'm guessing you've headed south out of the wet.

Travel safely!

G'day

The Portarlington Mussel Festival is on today and as part of the entertainment they have a classic car display.
The Geelong Morries were the biggest group with about 20 cars with all types represented except a Van.

Apart from the Morries hear are a few other cars that attracted my attention:

Nissan 1800 twin cam

Interestingly all the cars above were available new in the 1960's, some look new today and others looked old then,

First drive of Morrx for a while yesterday, nothing special just around town in traffic, but enough to feel the fun and how easy it is to drive and really not want to stop when I got home.

G'day Graham
Have just finished reading through your story. Have read it in the past but due to ageing grey matter had to remind myself. Man that project is awesome - makes me a bit green with envy. Well done. My MM project is not my first blown motor. I had a blower fitted to an FC Holden (hope I have not offended anyone with that H word on Morris forum). There is a story about it that may be of interest even though not Morris related. If interested can tell story, but what section to post it in? Once again congratulations on a superb transplant.
Cheers Bob

G'day

Last weekend the Ralley for Veteran cars from Adelaide to Darwin (3000+ kms) arrived in Darwin finishing at the Headquarters of the Motor Vehicle Enthusiasts Club ( a 1934 QANTAS hanger in Parap).
Some of the cars parked at the hanger after finishing and hear are a few of them.

G'day

In 1934 QANTAS built a hanger at Darwin's then airport ( what is now Ross Smith Ave. in Parap) as part of its service to Singapore and hence London.
Last weekend the Motor Vehicles Enthusiasts Club, the current lease holder, celebrated the buildings eightieth birthday with a dislpay of some of the members vehicles.
This building is rare in Darwin as very few buildings have survived for eighty years, after the WW2 bombings and Tropical cyclones ( primarily Tracy in 1974) destroying large parts of the city.

Here are a few pictures I took on the day, a wide range of vehicles on display from a 1907 Triumph bike through T models , WW2 jeeps, Yank Tanks to 5 Minors.

Darwin has grown a bit in the last 80 years, the hanger is now surounded by flats

Morrx

1500 Datsun and 5 speed also with air con

1907 Triumph

One way to get your bike to the show tow it behind your other bike
