Blue Ute hey
i was given a 1958 morris 1000 ute from my pop as he no longer has the time to work on cars.
She hasnt been registerd for around 6 years now and was previously owned by the president of the victorian morry club.
sadly its very rusty and un original the chassis was also FULL of mud.

At first i wanted to restore her to original form but the cancer had got her worse then first thought.
so now im going to strip her down to bare chassis and sheet metal.

Now fans and devoties of original conditioned factory standard cars close ur eyes for the next couple of lines.

i am goign to put a 13b twin turbo engine from the RX7 S6. so i am replacing the firewall, a few suspension diff and brake mods and double lining the chassis with 4 mm C beams and flat bar.

The Good Very Happy
the chassis
all hanging panels are straight and rust free
the roof dent and rust free

Embarassed The Bad
floor rusted through and patched up with no metal prep
checker plate for tray floor that looks like big bird came and did his buisiness on the welds
tek skrews everywere
more rust in the bottom of the A and B pillars
more rust in the tub walls and plenty of dents and half assed bog

some would say its not worth the work, but i like a challenge.

im 19 and am a welder/fabricator/plant mechanic.

I have a 58 ute that I rebuilt from virtually scratch, all the panels are available new, including floors. All it takes is time and patience and a bit of money, my ute took about two years in my free time, but I did try and do a little every day, whether that was online buying parts, or cleaning lenses etc

G'day

Welcome to our little community and good luck with your project.
You are the second person I have come across this year who is planning on a Series 6 13B in a ute, there is a block in the US working on one.
Edit: I do not know what I was thinking when I wrote this, the bloke in the US is actually looking at using an RX8 engine.

Are you planning on having the car registered ?
If you are I would be asking the relevant authorities, in your state, if they will pass it before you start because a NA 13B exceeds the allowable engine size under the new rules for modified cars and a turbo is even worse.

Cheers
Graham

lots of money going towards engineering
but if i dont get it on the road it will become a track car for cruise days

Do a list of what you want to do and take it to your engineer, Trust me, you don't want to get it finished to be told to re build it.

If you want a track car make the decision now, there is a big difference in time, cost and quality when you don't need an engineer to look at it

Hi
do not be put off by rust I have rebuild bigger piles of rust
number 1 make a detailed list of what needs to be replaced. if the ute back is that bad put a tray on it.
number 2 work out what you wont to do with the car
daily drive
weekend fun
track car
If you wont full rego find an engineer first, like bruce said,
As for the original lovers if it was not for the modifiers morris minors in australia and their clubs would be like most british marks of the people, not doing very well.
keep at it dont be put of, have fun that is the name of the game (most important part)

If you need help ask
and we do like photo's

brian.

Hi there, sounds like you have a plan,BUT,a very big caution,if its going to be a road car you really MUST follow the advice above and check out your plans with an engineer first!I stand to be corrected but from the contact I have had with an engineer, the first preliminary discussion over the phone wont cost you a cent and you will very quickly get an idea of what can or can not be done.Good luck whichever way you decide to go and as mentioned, there is a wealth of knowledge avasilable from people on this site so do hesitate to use it!It just makes things SO much easier.
