I was told the other day that the coil in my Morrie was upside down. Something to do with it overheating and possible oil leaks(??)

However, the coil has always been in this position since I bought the ute some 10 years ago and have had no issues with it being " upside down".

Is this something I should worry about ? Eye Rolls

Mine is early ser11 and has coil mounted on firewall, hanging
"downwards" at about 45 deg.
Reckon if turned "up" would need much longer coil lead and
possibly foul with the bonnet.

Later would have coil "flat" on genny, so none in really "upright"
position. Don't know about with alternator.

If it's been fine for 10yrs.. I guess mine's been this way for 65.

Don't think there's any reason to worry.

Minor 1000 have them mounted on top of the generator horizontal. I was pretty sure the original position on all OHV Minors was on the generator.
My car has been retro fitted with an alternator so I has with the aid of a cheap "L" bracket put the coil back in the original and right position

Thanks for the prompt replies.

The coil in my ute also hangs from the firewall at a 45 degree angle and the thought of a longer cable by righting the coil could produce problems as mentioned.

I had an alternator fitted some 5 years ago after issues with the generator on a trip to Wellington and have had no problems since, so I think that I will leave everything with the coil as is.

Thanks again for your help. Very Happy

The coil was on top of the generator in my SII-with-a-948-motor but for ease, I moved it to the mudguard when I fitted an alternator. Doesn't seem to be an issue there, but always happy to take advice if someone thinks this is a silly idea!
