A 1954 Series II in quite nice condition.

Bought from Petter Cottam in Kapunda, if any club members remember him.

We will be at the next Adelaide meeting, and joining.

Thanks to all that helped in the search - Chris

Well done Chris.

Now you can get rid of those 2 modern cars & concentrate on the proper classic Very Happy .

A word of warning - these Morris Minors are self multiplying.

The astute folks here will have noticed the 1000 motor with a Series II gearbox.

I have a few things to do cosmetically:
Reattach the trafficators.
Paint the green gear stick original!
Remove internal surrface rust and repaint.
Fix the tears in the door panels.
Etc.

Chris

Looks smart Chris Very Happy .
What's wrong with a green gear stick ? Mr. Green .

Are you going to repaint the interior the same as the exterior ?

It should be easy enough to get the trafficators hooked up - the original switch is still there under the dash.

Just be careful if you fit any electrical accessories as it appears to be +ve earth still.

Scott,

Yes, we will repaint the interior the same colour as the outside.

I have a spare steering wheel (the old one is cactus), but can't quite work out how to remove the old one.
Anyone have any ideas?

We want to keep it as original as we can, so will retain positive earth.
I have some great Morrie books, and one shows how to replace the trafficators.

Thanks again for the assistance - Chris

-Disconnect the battery,
-On one side of the steering wheel boss you'll see a screw. This holds the horn switch in place. Remove the switch & undo the wire,
-Technically, you'll now use a socket to undo the steering wheel nut. As you'll see, it's very big. You'll probably also find evidence of previous removal in the shape of chisel or centre punch marks which is the "usual" method of removal when a large socket isn't handy Mad .
-Undo the nut a few turns but don't take it right off.
-Hopefully, with a bit of wiggling & holding your tongue the right way, the steering wheel will release & come loose. This might be easy, this might be hard depending on when it was last removed. Sometimes banging the steering wheel rim can shock it loose but if it's really, really tight, then a puller might be required (I've never come to that stage though).
-When the steering wheel is loose, remove the nut & then the wheel.

There's 2 types of steering wheel to column fitments:
The early type locates using a keyway,
The later type uses splines.

You'll soon find out if your spare steering wheel is the same Very Happy .

Scott,

Your blood is worth bottling, and you are building up quite a credit Very Happy

BTW, I also managed to get a couple of very original Operation Manuals, and even one for a Morris Oxford - I have swapping material!

1 5/16 AF strictly, but a 33mm socket does the job.

I used an old bit of exhast pipe, (not morrie) heated it up & belted it over a spare steering nut, drilled a hole through it for a screw driver to go through, instant socket, but as Scott said most nuts have been butchered, like rear wheel hub nuts, so the socket wont go over it untill you chissel it off again, then file it up nice before putting it back on.

Put the new wheel on with the wheels strait, & the nut finger tight, drive down the street then reset the wheel to centre, while it's on the road, only way to get the wheel dead square.

Do you folks reckon that there will be Morrie Club officials there this Sunday?

We would like to join the Club then and get our new baby inspected so that we can drive him on a Morrie Club log book.

TIA - Chris

Picked up his new plates yesterday - "MORY 54".

I was surprised that no one had taken them before.

I intend on joining the club soon, but I need to get one of my minors into a somewhat legally drivable state first Red Convertible

Still runs (although only for very short periods as it's currently only air cooled) and drives perfectly straight, just doesn't look it.
An extra annoyance was that this happened 2 km from home, i'd just spent hours changing all fluids and greasing everything, and the other guy's insurance wouldn't pay me anything because I couldn't prove he ran a red light (no witnesses, I had enough trouble trying to get them to stop pursuing me for the $8000 or so damage that his car copped).
I was hoping they would give me a pay out as it would've funded the MIG that I need to fix it, but i'm still a few months away from affording one.
Still, it did fairly well considering it plowed into the side of a medium sized late 1990's toyota at 60 km/hr.
Jonno.

I hope you came out of it OK. At least the impact seems to be spread across the whole front.

My Van was almost a mirror image of that last Christmas. I was lucky that a passing motorist saw steam, thought it was smoke, and called the fire brigade. The Police also attended and charged the other driver with failing to give way. The other driver’s insurance company still tried to wiggle out of it for $100.00, but luckily I knew an assessor from another company and he had contacts.

Knackered SU replaced with reconditioned one (thanks to Derek at the MM Club), and I now get to use the choke

Major brakes go on in a month, then 1000 gearbox and diff.

I have 4 as-new and one never-used cross-plies if anyone wants them, as I replaced them with radials - now the Morrie goes where I point him, not the way that the road camber slopes Very Happy

Then, when the bank account recovers, the interior gets a good going-over.

Chris
